How University of Lahore GPA and CGPA are calculated
The University of Lahore grades on marks. Its Grading Policy sets fixed percentage bands for each letter grade. The bands run up to but not including the next one, so 80% up to 85% is an A-. Your grade depends only on your own score, not on how the rest of the class did.
The UOL grade points are unlike anything else in Pakistani higher education. An A- is worth 3.75, a value no other university here uses. Below it the scale steps in halves: B+ 3.50, C+ 2.50 and D+ 1.50. There is no B- and no C- at all. The full scale is A, A-, B+, B, C+, C, D+, D and F, which is nine grades.
Add one semester at a time, one row per course. You get each semester's SGPA together with the running CGPA up to that semester, plus a transcript-style PDF export when you want the whole record in one place.
The Formula
SGPA = Σ (Grade Point × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ (Credit Hours) // one semesterCGPA = Σ (Grade Point × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ (Credit Hours) // all semestersAn F scores 0.00 grade points but its credit hours stay in the denominator. Results are rounded to two decimal places.
Worked Examples
Example 1: one semester's SGPA
A 15-credit-hour semester using UOL grade points.
| Course 1, 3 CH, A (4.00) | 3 × 4.00 = 12.00 |
|---|---|
| Course 2, 3 CH, A- (3.75) | 3 × 3.75 = 11.25 |
| Course 3, 3 CH, B+ (3.50) | 3 × 3.50 = 10.50 |
| Course 4, 3 CH, B (3.00) | 3 × 3.00 = 9.00 |
| Course 5, 3 CH, C+ (2.50) | 3 × 2.50 = 7.50 |
| Total grade points | 12.00 + 11.25 + 10.50 + 9.00 + 7.50 = 50.25 |
| Total credit hours | 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 15 |
Example 2: the drop where B- would have been
A 3-credit course scored at 68%, which sits below UOL's B band. There is no B- to catch it.
| 68% falls in UOL's C+ band (65 – 69) | 3 × 2.50 = 7.50 |
|---|---|
| On an eleven-grade scale 68% would be B- | 3 × 2.67 = 8.01 |
| Difference on one course | 8.01 − 7.50 = 0.51 |
The University of Lahore Grading Scale
The University of Lahore's marks-to-grade table from its Grading Policy. Because UOL grades absolutely, these bands are fixed and you can work out your grade before results are announced. Note the A- at 3.75 and the absence of B- and C-.
| Grade | Marks % | Grade Points |
|---|---|---|
| A | 85 and above | 4.00 |
| A- | 80 – 84 | 3.75 |
| B+ | 75 – 79 | 3.50 |
| B | 70 – 74 | 3.00 |
| C+ | 65 – 69 | 2.50 |
| C | 60 – 64 | 2.00 |
| D+ | 55 – 59 | 1.50 |
| D | 50 – 54 | 1.00 |
| F | Below 50 | 0.00 |
Frequently Asked Questions
Is UOL's A- really worth 3.75?
Yes. The UOL Grading Policy lists A- at 3.75. That is higher than the 3.67 used at most HEC-aligned universities, and different again from the 3.70 used by Punjab University and LUMS. Below it the scale steps in halves, with B+ 3.50, C+ 2.50 and D+ 1.50. Use the UOL table as published rather than approximating it.
Does UOL have a B- or C- grade?
No. The scale is nine grades: A, A-, B+, B, C+, C, D+, D and F. There is no B- between B and C+, and no C- between C and D+. That means the steps between adjacent grades are wider than at universities with the full eleven-grade table, so a single band boundary matters more.
How are the percentage bands defined exactly?
As half-open intervals. The policy writes them as "80% ≤ score < 85%" for A-, "75% ≤ score < 80%" for B+, and so on, with 85% and above earning an A and anything below 50% an F. In practice that means the lower bound is included and the upper bound belongs to the next grade up.
What do S, US, I and W mean on my UOL transcript?
They are non-graded results. S and US mark satisfactory and unsatisfactory performance where grade points do not apply, I is incomplete, and W is a withdrawal. None of them carry grade points, so leave those courses out of the calculator. The dropdown offers only real letter grades for this reason.
Does an F count towards my UOL CGPA?
Yes, from both directions. An F contributes 0.00 grade points while its credit hours remain in the denominator, so it lowers your average twice over. Enter it as a normal row with its real credit hours.
I transferred from an annual-system programme. How is that converted?
Through the HEC guidelines rather than this table. UOL's policy states that conversion of annual system marks to GPA/CGPA is done as per HEC guidance, so use the GPA ↔ % converter for that step and this calculator for your semester-system courses.
